4 Ways to Spruce Up Your Deck This Spring

Dressing up your deck or patio can transform it into an ideal spot for outdoor dinners, campfires with family and friends, exercise, or just relaxation. As the warmer months approach, now is a great time to start thinking about how to spruce up your deck this spring. Whether you already spend quite a bit of time on your deck or are looking to make it into a place where you opt to sit more often, there are lots of avenues you can take to make your deck a more durable, comfortable place. We’ve compiled a few ways you can do just that.

1. Stain Your deck.

If your deck is looking a little drab and worn out from the winter elements, staining it is a great way to make it look more appealing. Try selecting a vibrant color to give new life to your deck. Or you can choose a lovely red, brown, or beige wood-toned finish to enhance the wood grains! Don’t forget to do prep work before staining or consider hiring a professional contractor to do the project for you.

2. Add a roof.

Screened in patios and decks with roofs overhead allow you to enjoy the comfort of your outdoor space with protection from precipitation, direct sunlight, and unpleasant temperatures. Adding a roof and/or screens to your deck will allow you to control the temperature of the space better as well as provide privacy, comfort, and protection from any insects that come out in the spring and summer months. When done properly, adding a roof or screens to your deck can also look very classy from the exterior of your home.

3. Upgrade your outdoor flooring.

Are your deck’s planks pretty rough, worn, or aging? It may be time to upgrade your outdoor flooring. There are lots of new decking options available these days, including pressure-treated decking that is engineered for structural support, tropical hardwood decking like Ipe and Camaru that includes lumber from outside North America, and native wood decking like your classic Cedarwood. Installing new flooring for your deck is an easy way to transform its appearance in no time.

4. Purchase deck stair lights.

Especially if you want to enjoy spring evenings’ ambiance on your deck or patio, investing in some sort of lighting options for your deck is a smart move. Purchasing deck stair lights to wrap around the railing of your deck stairs appears classy, homey, and illuminates the space for chats late into the night. Another awesome lighting feature to add to your deck is a fire pit. If you like cooking, roasting s’mores, or just having a mesmerizing fire to watch and keep your warm on cooler days, adding a fire pit to your deck could be just the thing you need to spruce it up a bit.
