Yes! In standard situations, our estimates are free. We want our clients to feel that they can call on us for just about any project they may or may want to do. Here at The Dan Company, we want to help guide you through the nuances of your renovation dreams. We love having the opportunity to give clarity to a project not only through our construction expertise but also through a financial lens to help achieve the most for your investment.
There are 2 situations in which a client may incur a cost to receive an estimate:
Situation A
It is our policy to charge for estimates on properties not currently owned by the client requesting the quote. If a client is using our estimating services to decide if a potential property is the right one for purchase, we reserve the right to charge for that information and our estimator’s time should the client decide against the purchase. If the client does purchase the property and we move forward with the project, we are more than happy to apply the original estimate fee to the new project as a deposit.
Situation B
When a project involves intricate details and deals with hard-to-reach areas of the home, we sometimes find ourselves spending more time and energy than we typically budget for on things like crawling through a crawlspace to track down water intrusion or going through an attic looking for evidence of a chimney leak. These types of projects can sometimes require what we call “discovery”. Discovery refers to hours spent tearing into the problem and investigating the actual cause of the particular issue. This may involve removing drywall in order to see the problem, digging out areas of foundations, or other more involved labors of that nature to be able to determine the root of the issue we have been called to troubleshoot. While the estimate for the discovery process is free, the discovery itself may not be.
In both of these situations, we will tell you in advance that there is a fee associated with this type of service.
Yes! We book all of our appointments through our company calendar, and we will invite you via email to the appointment. You will also receive an email reminder the day before your appointment is scheduled. If there are any changes to the appointment, you will receive an email notification about this as well. If you need to reschedule or cancel your appointment, please reach out to our office and we will be happy to find a better time for you!
Our standard hours are Monday through Thursday from 8 am to 4 pm and Friday from 8 am to 3 pm, so we do not typically schedule meetings on the weekend or after hours. That said, there are special circumstances that may be approved on a case-by-case basis.
Our estimator is well versed in the many different aspects of the construction field, and a phone call can usually get us pretty far along in the bid process. However, until a site visit is scheduled, hard estimate numbers are difficult to determine. We always strongly recommend a site visit if possible.
Estimates will be written on a first-come-first-serve basis. You can expect to receive your estimate anywhere from 4 to 6 business days depending on the scope of work.
We are thrilled that you want to work with us! Once you have given verbal confirmation of your estimate, we will send you a copy of the contract and the deposit terms. The contract will need to be signed and sent back to us with the deposit.

Once we have received both your contract and deposit, the planning of your project begins immediately. Your project manager will be in touch within a few days to introduce themselves and discuss next steps. Work beginning on site is dependent on the scope of work, how much planning is required, and lead times on key material orders such as plumbing fixtures, custom doors and windows, and other special order items. Your project manager will keep you updated on tentative timelines as these key points are put into place. Please note that schedules are also subject to change due to weather, sickness, or other unforeseen events. It is always our utmost priority to keep this start date and the rest of your schedule in place, and should elements outside our control result in necessary changes, we will notify you immediately and reschedule at the earliest availability.
Yes! After our scheduled meetings on Friday, we will inform you of anything scheduled for the coming week. As mentioned above, schedules are subject to change due to weather, sickness, or other unforeseen events. We will notify you of both the subcontractors as well as our in-house personnel that we have scheduled to work on your job. Changes to the schedule will be communicated via email or phone by your project manager.
For each client, the invoice schedule will look a little different as it depends on the size of the project. Invoices will come through either upon completion of the work, on a weekly basis, or on a bi-monthly basis. These invoices come from Ashley Cefalo, our Office Manager. Here at The Dan Company, our warranty covers one year from the date of substantial completion. We reserve the right to correct any deficiencies after the 1 year period that are due to neglectful workmanship or other.
No, you don’t! If you are happy with our services and would like to use us for all of your one-off handyman items, we offer an alternative option called a Master Service Agreement (MSA). Please contact our office for more information.
